Stephen was reared in Southern California, and he spent much time visiting the area's many art galleries and museums, particularly the J. Paul Getty Museum.  He frequented its collection of the old Masters, where he spent hours studying the ethereal "light from within" techniques of Rembrandt while many contemporary works captured his imagination as well.  Fry began painting at the ripe age of five when his kindergarten teacher viewed his first painting.  Encouraging the impressionable young Fry,  she told him he could be an accomplished artist one day. Today several of Fry's pieces hang on the walls of this early critic, turned collector.  Fry sold his first painting at the Simi Valley, California (Invitation only) art show at the age of 15Shortly afterwards, Fry was offered a full scholarship at the prestigious California Institute of The Arts.
Since that time Stephen has been painting full time as a professional.  The well traveled Fry moved to the South 20 years ago and is continually inspired by the history of the southern cultures and traditions, as well as the vast scenic beauty of the low country.  Fry's latest works display both cerebral and spiritual qualities, much like the artist himself.  Many of Fry's low country paintings are on century old wood taken from the numerous aging textile mills as they are being torn down.  Many collectors love the texture of these boards and the way  the pigment works with it's weathered grooves to create these very unique pieces!  Stephen's work hangs in homes and businesses worldwide.
Fry's work has been well received at allison sprock fine art so far, with five people even fighting over one painting!  Come visit the gallery for yourself and view this talented artist's work.
